Compression garments & pneumatic compression pumps
Nationwide

"NikoHealth gave us the foundation to grow and evolve our business. We wouldn’t have been able to accomplish what we have without having this platform in place."
United Medical is a family-owned DME provider based in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Founded in 1995, the company primarily provides compression garments throughout Virginia, along with pneumatic compression pumps and other medical supplies. When Director of Operations Cody Kritzer joined United Medical in 2023, the company was processing thousands of patients each year. But nearly every part of the operation was still dependent on paper.

“Every single patient that we got referred was coming in through a traditional fax. We actually had to print it out and scan it in. We were seeing a couple thousand patients a year, and everything was completely on paper.”
Before NikoHealth, United Medical was operating almost entirely on paper.
Patient referrals arrived through traditional fax. Documents had to be printed and scanned. Employees worked through physical stacks of patient files sitting on their desks.
For a business generating millions in annual revenue, keeping patients, orders, and billing organized had become increasingly difficult.
The biggest challenge was in billing and revenue cycle management.
United Medical lacked visibility into how quickly claims were being submitted, why claims were being denied, and how much work was sitting in accounts receivable. Many claims were still being submitted manually on paper.
Commercial claims could take 90 to 120 days to submit, while some Medicare and Medicaid claims sat for five or six months.
DSO had climbed to approximately 165 days.
The paper-based environment also made it difficult to support remote employees, measure team productivity, or introduce new technology into the business.
United Medical needed a platform that could help the company:
United Medical evaluated several DME software platforms before selecting NikoHealth.
For Cody, NikoHealth stood out because of its modern interface, flexibility, API capabilities, and ability to support the way United Medical wanted to operate.
He also wanted a platform that would not limit the company’s ability to introduce additional technology over time.
“I wanted a platform we could continue building on as the business evolved, adding new technology and integrations without forcing our team to work across a dozen different systems.”

During its first full year operating on NikoHealth, claims volume increased by approximately 81%. The company achieved this growth without adding billing staff. In fact, United Medical operated for most of the year with fewer billing team members.
"We were able to do almost double the amount of work, with most of the year having fewer staff members."

Before NikoHealth, United Medical had limited visibility into denial trends and claim submission patterns, with issues often only identified after impacting many claims or triggering audit concerns. The team can now spot and address issues earlier, improving front-end processes and reducing rework. Instead of discovering problems after affecting dozens of patients, they can respond when only a few orders are impacted.

Moving to digital workflows also improved the day-to-day experience for staff. With paper-based processes, employees often worked through large stacks of orders without a clear sense of progress. NikoHealth introduced visibility into workloads, tasks, and completed work, helping teams better understand their impact. The clean interface and more structured workflows make it easy for employees to navigate orders and patient information.
"It didn't matter how hard they were working; they felt like this stack of papers just never went away. Now we have different mechanisms that we track internally, and you can see the needle move."

As United Medical improved its operations, the business continued to scale. Since starting with NikoHeath, revenue increased by approximately 58%. Cody believes it would not have been possible to support this growth with their previous paper-based processes.
"NikoHealth gave our team the ability to handle the day-to-day volume required to support our growth. There’s no way we could have managed that many claims on a paper-based system."
